We believe that every individual has the strength, passion and talent to reach for the stars. 1 step 2 star is for young Territorians taking steps to achieve their dreams.
Help us achieve our dream, become a champion for 1 step 2 star…
Aged 6 to 16 years? Order your shoes and take a step towards your dreams…
An initiative by Starwin Management the idea was dreamed up to give young athletes across the Territory the opportunity to put their best foot forward in sport, life and community.
By providing free sports shoes to aspiring stars, we aim to positively change the lives of young Territorians (6-16 years of age), one step at a time.
1 step 2 star honours the life and contribution made by Maurice (MJ) Rioli (RIP) – a hero who took courageous steps to trail blaze a path for Territorians, becoming a champion AFL star, politician and community manager. He was a tireless advocate for giving young people a chance to shine, including supporting the establishment of Starwin Management. So many have followed in his footsteps, including his nephews Dean Rioli, Cyril Rioli Jnr and rising stars Benjamin Rioli and Willy Rioli (Jnr).
This initiative came about as the result of a day in 2010 where a young NT star nearly relinquished his opportunity to travel to Adelaide to participate in state screening for the AFL Draft. Starwin Management with support from Maurice Rioli was able to locate the young man, establish his reluctance to go was because of the ‘shame’ factor of not having appropriate shoes to be able to participate in the testing. We were able to organise for the young man to get a pair of shoes through The Cricket & Football Shop and catch his plane to Adelaide to follow his dreams. From this moment, the idea of 1stepstar was born…so that rising stars could follow the lead of a champion, Maurice Rioli. May his legacy live on.
Starwin Talent, Benjamin Rioli sums it up,
“This is a great way to give young kids across the Territory a chance to take a step towards their dreams, at the same time paying tribute to a cham pion. Uncle Maurice was an inspiration, I hope others follow his lead.”
“Thanks Starwin for donating shoes for the Minjilang girls Basketball team! This donation went a long way in making the girl comfortable in competing in a mainstream Basketball competition – the Hoops for Health challenge.”
Thanks from the Minjilang crew!
“Through Starwin’s donation of shoes our Kormilda school girls were able to play and participate in a range of sporting activities that they would otherwise have missed out on.”
