Game on for Local Clubs and Players with the 2010 Army Challenge Award

2010 News, Archive, Promotion on June 20th, 2010 No Comments

Iggy-200thOn-field displays of Courage, Initiative and Teamwork will be celebrated at ‘grass roots’ this year across Australia in the Army Challenge Award. 2010’s Army Challenge Award will highlight values synonymous with both the Australian Army and Australian Rules Football with a competition in each state and territory for both players and clubs – every state will have a winning player and a winning club; it doesn’t get much more local than that.

Former North Melbourne champion Glenn Archer, regarded as one of the most courageous players in AFL history, is the official Ambassador for the Army Challenge Award.
“The focus on grass roots footy for 2010 is about rewarding and recognising the support that communities across Australia give to local footy.

“It’s an award for local players and local clubs. This is where the mums and dads put in hours of volunteer work to make the game great. “So the Award will recognise the community support and the value local teams bring to the game,” he said.

Each week local football teams from across Australia will select the player who has best demonstrated examples of Courage, Initiative and Teamwork on the field.

At the end of the footy season local players in each state who have best demonstrated Courage, Initiative & Teamwork and accumulated the most points will win an awesome ‘Footy Weekend’ in Melbourne for them and a mate and a ‘kick off’ with Glenn Archer; and receive the Army Challenge Player Award Medallion for 2010.

Each week, the public is also invited to vote for their favorite local club by playing ‘Kick for Your Club’, a simple footy game on the Army Challenge Award website. Club supporters can play the game and ‘kick’ once a day, with the distance of each ‘kick’ registering points for their local club.

At the end of the season, the local club in each state and territory that has been able to get their supporters to ‘kick’ the most amount of points will win $5,000 to spend on something that benefits the club (eg, a water tank or sporting equipment).

Simply by showing their support for their local club, everyone who ‘kicks’ for their club will go into the weekly draw to win fantastic prizes like Sherrin footballs and Rebel Sport gift vouchers.
