Artists story ~
"Yirrikipayi (crocodile) 🐊 is my totem from the Tiwi Islands. It has been passed down from our great grandfather, grandfather and fathers. In Tiwi history we follow our father's side for our totem and our tribe is Tarnikinni (flying fox) 🦇 and my skin group is sun ☀️ - from my mother's side"
A former graduate of Haileybury Rendall School - Phylly was a recipient of our Higher Attire initiative and has her graduation photo featured on our home page.
In 2022, Phylisia spent healing time visiting Kuku Yalanji country, including a day out with Walkabout Cultural Adventures.
Whilst visiting she sketched this Yirrikipayi story, sharing her knowledge with her little sistar.
She returned home to Tiwi to begin work on country and take up the captaincy for the Tiwi Bombers Football Club women's team in the NTFL, a big leap to take positive action, after suffering a deep loss in a family tragedy.

Young people have so much to share, if we can create safe places and cultural spaces for them. We are grateful to Phylly for sharing her story, and for all she is doing to be Lighting the Way for the next generation ✨
