How would you describe ways that you give back / pay it forward in our community?
I try to collaborate with eco conscious and socially responsible businesses. With my products and packaging I also try to keep the materials eco friendly as possible. Through my artwork and stories I'm finding people are resonating with it and it helps them in different ways. When something you create from your truth helps anybody it is very humbling and I am glad that something I am so passionate about helps others.
What is your one-of-a-kindness story?
I once came across an Indigenous lady with a mental impairment looking very scared, embarrassed and distressed sitting in a shopping centre and asked if she was ok. She told me that she had started menstruating and that it had shown through her clothes so she couldn't walk anywhere. She also had no money to buy menstrual products. I went and bought her everything she needed to freshen up as well as a change of clothes and menstrual products to last her. As she walked to the bathroom I walked closely behind her to stop her from being embarrassed. She was very grateful and I was so glad that I was able to help.
Can you share with us a story of how you care for country?
My husband and I established the Balunu Foundation and we have a healing retreat across the harbour. It is a 1 kilometre stretch of beach. I like to walk up and down the beach collecting all the rubbish, even the littlest of pieces. It is a healing place and by cleaning and looking after it I'm not only caring for country I also get healing while I connect with my country.
