Milmil Creations is a new enterprise founded by former Starwin team member, Ameina Brunker-Cronin. Ameina works full-time in the health sector, is completing further tertiary studies and is a mum to three little ones. Sewing is a creative and therapeutic practice that supports her wellbeing. As part of our Each One, Teach One mentoring model, Ameina also spends time paying it forward by investing in teaching the next generation of Starwin Collective makers.
How would you describe ways that you give back / pay it forward in our community?
Supporting and appreciating those who are pursuing making positive change in a our communities is an important principle of mine. As well as investing in the next generation of change makers, creatives and visionaries by mentoring and exchanging skills and knowledge as I believe we have to much to learn from our younger ones.
What is your one-of-a-kindness story
I have been involved with the Starwin Collective since 2016 by working at in shop, which inspired me to pick up my love of sewing as a creative outlet. Starting Milmil Creations by Ameina has enabled me to creatively express myself and combine my two loves sewing and Indigenous printed fabrics.
Can you share with us a story of how you care for country
I was taught from one of my grandfathers that our country is our mother who provides for us and in return we care for her. We view the relationship we have with country as an important connection and take our role seriously. The dry season is my favourite time of the year as its when I can take my kids out camping on country.
All Milmil Creations are made by upcycling fabric offcuts and finding new ways to create and innovate.
